Zoo Gang, The

The code name of four World War II resistance fighters who reunited 28 years later to fight criminals throughout Europe on the syndicated crime series THE ZOO GANG/SYN/1974.


Each member had his own individual code name. Steven Halliday (Brian Keith), an antique dealer was called “Fox”; Monouche Roget (Lilli Palmer), a tavern owner was called “Leopard”; Tom Devon (John Mills), a jeweler was called “Elephant”; and Alec Marlowe (Barry Morse), the mechanic was called “Tiger”.

The characters were based upon the novel “The Zoo Gang” (1962) written by Paul Gallico.


Born in Philadelphia, Jerome Alphonse Holst worked 30 years as a librarian. He has since retired and lives in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mr. Holst is also the author of the children’s books “Norman the Troll,” "Norman the Troll and the Haunted House," and "Gretchen and the Gremlins." In addition, he penned the fantasy novel “The Adventures of Glinda Gale,” a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz" and the reference text “The Encyclopedia of Movie and TV Insults.” .
