Mr. Showbusiness

The self-acclaimed nickname of knuckle-headed Jethro Bodine (Max Baer) on the sitcom THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES/CBS/1962-71.


Jethro is the nephew to backwoods millionaire, Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen)  who liked to be called “Mr. Showbusiness” by his flunkies and stooges as he pretended to be the world’s greatest talent agent and Hollywood Director/Producer. He operated “J. B. Enterprises” out of a large office in the Drysdale bank located in Beverly Hills.

Born in Philadelphia, Jerome Alphonse Holst worked 30 years as a librarian. He has since retired and lives in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mr. Holst is also the author of the children’s books “Norman the Troll,” "Norman the Troll and the Haunted House," and "Gretchen and the Gremlins." In addition, he penned the fantasy novel “The Adventures of Glinda Gale,” a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz" and the reference text “The Encyclopedia of Movie and TV Insults.” .
