Last Electric Knight, The

The alter ego of  Ernie Lee (Ernie Reyes, Jr.), an adopted 10 year-old boy with mysterious power (“energy”) on the police comedy/drama SIDEKICKS/ABC/1986-87.

Before his death, Ernie’s grandfather  (Keye Luke) arranged to have his grandson (“The Last Electric Knight”)  live with Sgt. Jake Rizzo (Gil Gerard), a disorganized bachelor and plainclothes LAPD police officer.

When Ernie felt the need for advice, he closed his eyes and meditated (via flashbacks) on the sage wisdom imparted to him by his grandfather while in his homeland of Patasan.

Ernie used his special martial arts skills to help others in trouble. When a group of street thugs were harassing a young couple in the park, Ernie laid waste to the entire bunch. Afterwards, the pint-sized hero commented, “Every picnic has its ant.”

Note: The series was based on the TV-movie The Last Electric Knight (1986) produced for THE DISNEY SUNDAY MOVIE.
