Personal nickname of actor Tom Arnold. He earned his moniker when he worked at a meat packing plant in Ottumwa, Iowa. One of the jobs at the plant required that the arriving hogs be killed and hung up to drain out their blood. Tom’s method of killing the hogs was a gun to the back of the head.

Once he was in a rush to go to lunch so he killed eight hogs and left them on the floor without draining the blood out of them. Unfortunately, the Federal inspectors came by and condemned the meat. Tom, of course got in trouble for the incident.

Note:  Born March 6, 1959 in Eldon, I0wa, Thomas Duane “Tom” Arnold was married in 1990 to comedian Roseanne Barr, the star of the situation comedy ROSEANNE/ABC/1988-1997. Arnold was a writer on the show and also played a character named Arnie Thomas.

In 1993, Arnold and Barr opened a restaurant called “Roseanne and Tom’s Big Foo6d Diner,” in Eldon, Iowa. The diner mirrored the same kind of loose meat sandwiches served at the the fictional Lanford Lunch Box on the ROSEANNE TV Series. When Arnold and Barr divorced in 1994, the diner closed within a year.

Tom Arnold’s other TV credits included TOM (1994); THE TOM SHOW  (1997–1998);  MY BIG REDNECK WEDDING (2008–2009); SONS OF ANARCHY (2009, 2011); and TRAILER PARK BOYS (2016).


Born in Philadelphia, Jerome Alphonse Holst worked 30 years as a librarian. He has since retired and lives in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mr. Holst is also the author of the children’s books “Norman the Troll,” "Norman the Troll and the Haunted House," and "Gretchen and the Gremlins." In addition, he penned the fantasy novel “The Adventures of Glinda Gale,” a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz" and the reference text “The Encyclopedia of Movie and TV Insults.” .
